I’ve designed these games to help coach players in every aspect of the game, from individual core skills, to team-based attacking strategies.

These games are tried, tested and proven with both grassroots beginners and top youth players in professional academies. They are designed to stimulate players and lead them down the most effective paths of learning.

Some games get your players working on passing skills in competitive scenarios, while others are more tactically focused, providing your players with the skills to see the opportunities before them on the pitch.

Players will develop core skills through the sheer number of touches that each game guarantees. At the same time they will develop “football vision” – the ability to see spaces on the pitch – as each game is played in realistic game conditions.

And because of the pitch dimensions, you can run several games simultaneously, perhaps focusing on different disciplines, so that all of your players are playing all of the time.

64 Small-Sided Football Games will give you an array of skills, techniques and strategies to give your team an edge.

So why not be among the first to own a copy of this unique resource?

You can buy 64 Small-Sided Football Games in two formats:

An A4 PDF document stored on your computer. You can help the environment by saving trees and using less chemical-based ink by only printing out the games you need for the day.

An A4 user-friendly spiral bound printed report for your bookshelf or desk. Spiral bound means you can use it without having to hold the page open as with most bound books. You can copy or print as many copies as you like for distribution to your players and colleagues.

Changes by the IFAB (International FA Board) regarding permitted clothing last year have created an impact that affects all levels of the game, as Bath City found last year to their surprise when five of their players were sent off in an FA Youth Cup tie for wearing the wrong colour baselayer while playing.

Despite versions of the rule being in place it has now been fully clarified that all football player’s undergarments, such as tights and the increasingly popular performance base layers, must be matching in colour to a team’s kit. This was confirmed by Sepp Blatter at IFAB’s 125th Annual General Meeting and takes effect from the professional leagues through to Sunday league.

This is a change that will affect teams & players as well as sports retailers; the underlayers are generally popular in all seasons, predominantly for performance enhancement, and will need to become available in more colour options to suit the ruling. Generally offered in a plain black or navy – and in high tenacity moisture-wicking stretch fabric – they have not often been made with custom considerations. There is also the consideration of female sports including women’s football needing lighter colours or fitted tops, or demand for adapted alternatives for summer and winter seasons. It is for this purpose that Hertfordshire-based teamwear provider, Team Colours, have released a full range of custom base layers and undershorts.

As bespoke manufacturers of sports and leisurewear, Team Colours are primarily focused on providing unique garments to specified needs. The new selection of performance teamwear arose in response to different sports interest in tailored undergarments. And for the spring season and summer tournaments to come, Team Colours offer a varied series of custom extras; select a standard or optimum fabric, specify short or long sleeve, add thumb holes or turtleneck collar and of course, specify fabric colour. The custom appeal makes this garment ideal for both men and women in a variety of team & individual sports, and a key item to suit demands of modern sport.

Shock under 12 result of the season. Colts needed three points from this game and they moved top, disastrously lost their way against second from bottom Alpha Taxis.

Did Colts get their preparation right? I will come back to that. The game……………………

Colts, going into the game had conceded 4 in 15 games, so when they opened up a 2-0 lead another comfortable win looked ominous. Chances came and chances was missed, a mixture of poor finishing and dogged Alpha Taxis defending. Most teams would have buckled under consistent one way pressure. Worryingly for Colts no one could pull the trigger, shooting was weak to none existent. It seemed attackers needed to be in the six yard box to test the keeper, anything further out was out of range, this from a team averaging almost six goals a game.

Taxis’ fought and battled for every ball, clearAing their lines as far as possible and the whole team following the clearance out as far as the clearance allowed.

Two nil at half time was no recognition of chances made, corners taken or (scrappy) possession; it was recognition of un stinting never say die effort from Alpha Taxis.

A big change at half time was the change of keeper to Matt Stephenson was handed the gloves, Matt has helped team out in goal whenever needed, and this was his last game before transferring to GSC Dynamite. Almost his first job was to pick the ball out of the net 2-1. A goal out of the blue for Taxis’ who had hardly been out of their own half, the goal gave them an extra impetus to keep fighting, they had tasted success. Marcus G’ returned the two gaol gap with an under powered shot that looped in the top corner, keeper no chance, luck had favoured GSC. GSC then hit the bar, a headed return would have scored, but a cycle kick volley never connected – chance gone. Tom H’ beats his full back, pass to Dylan on edge of six yard box tap in? The centre is lashed passed everyone. In between James B’ has three one on one chances with the keeper, not one forces him to make a save. Some of the Taxis last ditch tackling was so good that they earned the right to those missed chances.

The longer the game went on the weaker the GSC tackles, Taxis was starting to get reward for their heroics, an uncleared shot and its 3-2. The linesman flag went up, but no intervention from the young referee. Offside? Onside? They had earned that goal. Could they get another?

The game flowed the other end, GSC break and score. The flag goes up from the opposite linesman, this time the referee intervenes and no goal. Five minutes later Lewis receives ball in his own half and is flagged off side. A young referee and young linesman, a dangerous combination, learning on the job leaves teams open to these errors. There is no answer, they have to learn somewhere; Premiership decisions are disputed every week.

Then to rub salt into open wounds Taxis’ equalise. Team effort was rewarded.

Keeper Tom Johnston, rested at half time, had gone 4 hours without conceding, his four conceded for the season was in ruins. His substitute keeper was not to blame, none was easily savable.

One list twist? A short GSC corner leaves Dylan heading towards; who will he pass to for the tap in, his scuffed shot hits the side netting and it’s back to the drawing board.

The team’s record is still something to be proud off; without a defeat in two years. The draw might be a wakeup call the team needs.

Preparation, did GSC get it right?

I arrived early with team manager Matt Bryant to help put the nets up, I watch the players arrive all dressed for a warm July match. No hats, no wet weather jackets and trousers, no gloves; this on a freezing day. One player stepped out of a car with no protection other than his kit.

At the half time team talk half the team was grey with cold. Once you get this cold there is no way of playing yourself warm.

At the end of the game I found myself taking nets down with one parent helping. I go to watch my grandson play; my days of taking nets down should be over.

Why this game did GSC parent supporters suddenly congregated on the coach’s side of the pitch, the team needs the parents on one side and coach on the opposite, that way MB can get his points over unobstructed.

Should we have trained as usual on the Friday? I was available, something about a party? If I can make myself freely available should I reasonably anticipate everyone there – unless sick or on an unavoidable event?

Alpha Taxis support was exceptional, supportive. GSC parents were not heard.

Am I right? I am sure parents will have differing opinions.

While hoping to keep their current form ticking over Dynamite had to dig deep, Alpha Taxis who only had 11 players(and 1 goal net!) deserve credit for that.

A great send off for Jay and Charlie, by the time they make their 1st team debuts for Town the Mariners will be in the Premier League.

A full squad to choose from and this gave all players a chance to have a good run out, some of the lads who came off the bench have certainly staked a claim to start against SC Apollo in 2 weeks time, healthy competition for places in the starting 11 will only benefit the team. The 1st half subs benefited from a new warm up regime which consisted off tree climbing and ball losing.

Another great team effort, players going home with a smile on their faces, job done!

On a final note Matt Lear made his last appearance in the dugout, he’s almost full time football with both his sons playing and will be able to follow Jay and Alfie even more now. I’d like to thank Matt for all his help over the last 2 years it’s been a fantastic time to see the lads improve so much and Matt has been instrumental in everything they’ve achieved, thanks Matt.

Up The Dynamite!

Father and son think futsal could be the solution to England’s football future! But they need local teams to join an under 10s futsal league…

What

Mark Laughton (38) and his son Jacob (9) are both involved with futsal coaching in North East Lincolnshire.

Since September 2011 Mark has been the volunteer assistant futsal coach alongside Kevin Bryant, the well known futsal organiser. Kevin started an under 10s training session at the Peaks Lane YMCA Hostel earlier in the year, and Mark’s son Jacob joined the group in May.

The under 10s session attracted some older young people, and lead to an under 13s coaching session now every Thursday 5.30pm to 6.30pm, and a YMCA team in the U13s Community Futsal League.

Jacob (9) has made some important contributions to the under 13s team despite his age, but as reported in a previous article the under 10s team need opposition now. Kevin and Mark hope to be able to set up an under 10s league as early in the new year as possible. Do you have a team ready for their futsal challenge?

 When

The YMCA under 10s train every Saturday, 9am to 10am at The YMCA Peaks Lane
Where

Matches can be played in any suitably sized sports hall. If there is room for spectators even better

Who

All of the futsal matches organised by Kevin Bryant are FA registered with FA referees. If you have 7 players under 10 years of age on 30 August 2011 who want to challenge the YMCA team contact Kevin

Mark is a level 1 FA coach, and works as a youth and community development co-ordinator

Why

Futsal is a small-sided version of football, using a low-bounce ball which improves a player’s touch, turns and technique. It is fast and fun

8 years ago Mark played in one of the adult futsal leagues currently based at Second Avenue Resource Centre. He made some solid appearances for Grimsby Baptist Church. Mark was impressed by the style and standard of football this game produced even then. Now he sees his eldest son improve weekly

How

Contact Kevin Bryant to challenge the YMCA U10s Futsal team (or U/9′S)

By Colts standards a scrappy game, not that the players was to blame, a strong wind, low sun and poor pitch, and dogged opponents conspired to spoil the game.

It would have been easy to go long ball, but that’s not the Colts philosophy, Colts pass their way to victory, the way they have been coached.

An early goal settled any nerves against a team with a great defensive record; they had not conceded more than three in any game until today. The goal was made and scored by top scorer Jamie Loftus, chasing a lost cause he robbed the defender and drove on to volley home. Centre back Jamie Caines volleyed home a half cleared corner to show the forwards that he was more than just a redoubtable defender. A couple of hit posts were it for the first half, 2-0.

Good managers can change and influence games, but only if they have players capable of taking instruction’s. Half time Jack Boswell was asked to come off the wing and play centre forward, to play off the shoulder of the last defender, ‘stretch play.’ Two second half goals showed the prudence of that conversation.

Leo Kilday added a fifth, a goal a game for past six weeks.

The 5-0 score did not fully reflect the Colts dominance of the ball, Discoveries had just two corners, and not a shot on goal. Thomas Johnson was called off his line a few times to clear through balls that could have proved dangerous but for his alertness. Pleasing for the coaches that we had worked with him keeping a ‘higher line’ in the Friday training session.

Yet again Mathew Bryant had four substitutes, all got to play as players was rotated on and off at regular intervals, each player that re entered play getting to experience a new position.

Colts have everything to play for and everything to lose, SC Apollo are to of league P16 Points 27, Colts follow P13 points 26, the interesting team is third placed Discoveries Colts, P14 Points 26, same as GSC. Neither team has met!

GSC Dynamite is a creditable 4th.
